Some more or less recent stuff, focussed on GIFs. Or other web animations. Or something else loosely connected to that. This time with a focus on the Chaos Communication Congress.

Olia Lialina: “The Only Thing We Know About Cyberspace Is That It’s 640×480
In her presentation Olia gives an overview on her project “1 Terabyte of Kilobyte Age” (beware of great background music when clicking this link), which aims to analyse the GeoCities archive. And she’s looking for helping hands. Also, don’t miss her art portfolio.

Ange Albertini: “Funky File Fomats
This is something for those of you who like to have fun messing with file specs. Ange explains how different file formats can contain one another and thereby really mess with your understandings of how things work:)
This talk is a nice introduction to understand how GIFs can be used as a container for Javascript code, as it is explained here.
Ange is also known for his binary posters. Download them here or buy them there.

As announced before, I was allowed to give my presentation about the “deaths of the GIF” at the congress. The video and audio recordings are available at the CCC website.
I’m not sure what happened to the English translation, I can’t find it. But as soon as possible I will write an English text version of the talk and upload it here. Meanwhile you can view the slides as a PDF here. Or, if you understand German: wired.de published a nice summary of the talk.

And now: Farewell, 2014!
